Plank or herringbone?

Planks are laid in long, straight rows and suit most rooms. If you want a pattern, see herringbone LVT. For planks, add 10% to the room area to cover cuts. A 20 m² room needs 22 m². Packs are sold whole, so divide by the pack size and round up. Our flooring calculator does the sum.

What to look for in a vinyl plank

• Wear layer. The clear top coat that protects the print from scuffs and scratches. Thicker gives more protection. Daytona is 0.55mm, which is 83% more than the 0.3mm residential standard. See the wear layers guide.
• Fitting. These planks are glued down, which gives a flush, solid floor. For a floating click floor, see click SPC and rigid core flooring.
• Room. The vinyl is water resistant, so it suits kitchens and hallways. We do not recommend it for wet rooms.

Fitting

The subfloor must be smooth, flat and dry, and we recommend a professional fitter. You will need a suitable flooring adhesive; the LVT adhesive calculator works out how much. Daytona is suitable for underfloor heating. For other ranges, check the specification first.

Vinyl plank questions

Is vinyl plank the same as LVT?

Yes, mostly. LVT stands for luxury vinyl tile and covers planks as well as tiles. See all LVT flooring.

Is vinyl plank flooring waterproof?

The vinyl itself is water resistant and wipes clean. Water that gets into joints or under the floor can still cause damage, so keep the subfloor dry.
